The (Current) Best of the Best

This was my favourite thing to do during school, everyday thinking of new combinations of teams, players and possible transfers. Not much has changed, I still love it and hence I have completed what I call the best of the best. It is essentially the best combinations of players in a basic 4-4-2 formation from the top 4 teams currently in the Premier League. I have am working with my own perception of who I prefer, the players performances over the last 3 seasons  and current form does not play a large role in my decisions. After you have read through the best combinations from the joint teams, I have made the final best of team to see which players are truly at the top of their game and would make one potent team.

Notes on each Combination:

Note 1: Rio has not played enough to merit taking Kompany’s spot, who has been excellent for City this season. Rooney has had an extremely strong finish to the season and has played his part in the overall contribution to the team, therefore makes the team. No United CM good enough to displace either of City’s. Must buy in the summer.

Man United players - 7
Man City players - 4

Note 2:  Defence picks itself. Wilshere gets in ahead of Lampard who has missed half the season due to injury. Drogba and Malouda had brilliant starts to the season and continue to be dangerous with the ball at their feet. Van Persie been great every time he has played, pity about his continued injury problems.

Chelsea players - 6
Arsenal players - 5

Note 3: Giggs gets the CM job as no other CM from both United or Chelsea are really deserving of it, with Rooney and Berbatov (leagues top scorer) getting the nod over the inconsistent Drogba in this case. Torres still nowhere to be seen. Great mixture of defenders at the back, with 2 from each team.

Man United players - 7
Chelsea players - 4

Note 4: Arsenal’s CB’s do not get into any of the teams, as they are old and inexperienced. Wilshere ahead of Fabregas this time round when the entire season's form is considered. Tevez and Van Persie lethal together.

Man City players - 6
Arsenal players - 5

Note 5: Clichy gets the nod over Evra this time round. Arsenal boss the midfield and the strikers pick themselves.

Man United players - 7
Arsenal players - 4

Note 6: A very solid looking back four, although Luiz would now fight for a place. Lampard gets the nod this time round for extra attacking flair, with Drogba and Tevez upfront.

Chelsea players - 6
Man City players - 5

Final Note:

Its really interesting to note the combinations from the teams, as Man United have the majority with 5, Arsenal have 3, Chelsea have 2 and City just the lone 1. I believe this is the order in which the league will finish. The selected teams do not reflect my overall feelings, but when making these kinds of teams, one would really struggle to find the right combinations if current form was not a deciding factor. No Arsenal defenders in the final backline, however they do play very attractive and attacking football therefore they dominate the midfield. Rooney and Tevez were lethal when they played together and would still be today.
